Report on Dean's transition to our family

That sounds official, doesn't it? The report is that he is doing so well it hardly seemed as though we/he had a transition at all. He's had a few instances of acting a bit spoiled, but not much more than any respectable Spicer child, and much better than the very spoiled Vera!

We arrived back in Texas on a Friday afternoon and probably got to our house around 5 p.m. with the delicious meal my (exhausted) generous mom sent home with us. Dean walked into the house and the kids immediately started showing him through the house and pulling out toys and he did what any normal 4 year old boy would do--he played with them! He ate a good dinner, slept all night in his new room, and got along with his new siblings. Repeat that sentence every day for the past 2.5 weeks and you've got Dean's transition. He does little happy dances when I'm getting him dressed and he's discovered that bubble baths are way fun, especially with the abundance of tub toys we have.

As my gentle readers discovered in the post about Dean's foster parents, he was still wearing a diaper when we got him. No more! He loves his new Kung Fu panda undies, but he only wants to wear them backwards so he can see the picture of Po! The first day he wore them I noticed at the end of the day they were backwards, so I assumed he took them off when using the toilet and put them on incorrectly. Nope, he really thought the picture went in the front!! He's come around to my way of thinking now.

That reminds me of another really great character trait he came with: he likes to obey! He wants to obey! He does not like to be doing things the wrong way and he is a very quick study. Which reminds me of another really great mental trait he came with: he is very smart! We have a little vTech laptop toy for learning letters and short spelling words and he is already figuring it out!! He knew our alphabet already, at least to a certain extent, but my word!!

I'm including a picture of Dean and his big buddy Emma on their matching laptops.

So that's the report. He's doing great, he's having fun, and he's fitting in. I keep waiting for the honeymoon to end, but so far he's just a happy little boy who wants to be loved. What more could an old mom like me want?

That is so great. A pal of mine has just adopted a boy from Ethiopia and I've loved reading her posts about how things are going.
